Main purpose of the job:
As Duty Manager you will be expected to support the Restaurant Manager and take responsibility for the smooth running of the restaurant and the implementation, evolution and ongoing improvement of standards, service and profitability.
In the absence of the Restaurant Manager you will be solely responsible for the management of your shift, the waiting staff & ensuring our high standards of service are surpassed; for which you will receive training.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
This is a hands on role and the duties include:
- Set up and prep for service; including checking table settings and re-stocking;
- liaise with the chefs regarding dietary requirements and menu changes;
- welcoming and interacting with customers; understanding the menus and dining style;
- proactively ensuring that the restaurant and back of house areas are cleared down and cleaned in
accordance to the business’s policies;
- being hands on with the washing up and ensuring that there are no breakages
- managing staff and reporting to the Restaurant Manager with any feedback;
- assisting the Restaurant Manager with the training and motivating of staff where required;
- maintaining high standards of quality control, hygiene, and health and safety;
- carrying out basic reception and duty management responsibilities
- ensuring the building is locked up securely and the correct shut down procedure is adhered to in the absence of the Restaurant Manager;
- pro-actively & successfully resolving complaints
- helping in any area of the restaurant or hotel when circumstances dictate.
Practical requirements:
As a hospitality business applicants must be willing to work weekends, evenings, Bank holidays, and peak periods as this is the busiest time. Applicants will also need to be available to work additional shifts and days during staff holidays and public holidays.
The restaurant operates to a weekly rota dictated by the bookings. This position is currently for 3 to 4 shifts per week however a full time role may be available for the right candidate. Shift times could be, but not necessarily, 4/5/6.30pm – 12am, 4/5/6.30pm – 11pm, or splits 12pm – 4pm & 6.30pm – 12am.
Essential competencies:
This position requires someone who is well motivated, confident, with experience in customer relations and preferably an enjoyment for the industry with a genuine pride & interest for their work.
